10/JESUS
10/1 LAW
GOD CHOSE THE JEWS. God led the Jews out of Egypt into the
desert on their way to the promised land with Moses as their leader. At Mount
Sinai Moses went up the mountain to meet God where God told Moses that the Jews
would be his own people if they obeyed him. Moses relayed this to the leaders
who promised to obey God in all that he commanded. Moses then reported this to
God. Obeying the commandments was a sign of love for God.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. God gave the commandments to Moses on
Mount Sinai as guides for the people to live as God wished. The first three are
about loving only the true God, respecting the name of God, and keeping holy
the Lord's day. The last seven are about loving others. One must honor one’s
parents, not murder, not commit adultery, not steal, not accuse one falsely,
and not desire another man's wife.
THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT. Jesus was asked what was the
greatest commandment. He replied that one must love God with all one’s heart,
soul and mind. He then added the second one saying one must love their neighbor
as themselves. Jesus reduced the whole law by saying one must love God, one’s
neighbor and oneself. We love God by our obedience to him, love our neighbor by
being kind to others, and love ourselves by caring for our health.
