13/JESUS
13/1 DEATH
ALL MUST DIE. Adam and Eve were punished for disobeying God and both would suffer during their lives. God told Adam that after working hard to make the soil produce anything, he would die. "You were made from soil and you would become soil again." Some die young while some die old; some die in peace and some die after much suffering. Life is like a journey which has a beginning and an end which is death on earth. Jesus taught that there is life after death; and while on earth, we must prepare for life after death.
THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD. St. Paul taught about the
resurrection of the dead because some doubted that there was life after death.
He gave the example of Jesus who died and rose from the dead three days later.
We who believe in Jesus will also be raised from the dead. Paul wrote when
talking about the body, "It is sown corruptible; it is raised
incorruptible. It is sown weak; it is raised glorious. It is sown weak; it is
raised powerful. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body."
Just as there is death, there is life after death.
THE LAST JUDGMENT. Jesus taught about the final judgment of all peoples. There would be a separation of those saved and of those not saved. All will be judged on their actions. The saved will be those who fed the hungry, gave water to the thirsty, clothed the naked, cared for the sick, and visited those in prison. Those not saved are those who did not help the needy but cared only for themselves. We must follow the example of Jesus who cared for all in need.
