8/JESUS
8/4 THE ROSARY
HOW TO PRAY THE ROSARY. This prayer
begins with the (1) Apostles Creed, (2) an Our Father, (3) three Hail Marys and
(4) the Glory.
(5) There are five decades (ten Hail
Marys) with each decade made up of an Our Father, ten Hail Marys and the Glory.
After the fifth decade, the rosary ends by praying (6) the Hail Holy Queen. If
the whole rosary cannot be said daily, it would be good to say part of it. This
prayer is said by many Catholics daily throughout the world.
THE JOYFUL AND SORROWFUL MYSTERIES.
The mysteries reflect on the gospel stories. The joyful mysteries include the
Annunciation, Visitation, Birth of Jesus, the Presentation of Jesus in the
Temple, and The Finding of Jesus in the Temple. The sorrowful mysteries are the
Agony in the Garden, the Scouring at the Pillar, the Crowing with Thorns, the
Carrying of the Cross, and the Crucifixion and the Death of Jesus.
THE MYSTERIES OF LIGHT AND THE
GLORIOUS MYSTERIES. The mysteries of light are the Baptism of Jesus, the
Wedding Feast of Cana, the Proclamation of the Kingdom, the Transfiguration, and
the Institution of the Eucharist. The glorious mysteries are the Resurrection,
the Ascension, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Assumption, and the
Coronation of Mary Queen of Heaven and Earth. Though not essential to use the
mysteries while saying the rosary, this has been the tradition of the Church.
