Romans Chapter 7
1. 7:1-3 The law binds only the living
7/1, THE LAW BINDS ONLY THE LIVING. The Christian who
has died “through the body of Christ” is no longer bound to the mosaic law.
The Christian (cross) is no longer bound to the mosaic
law (line/two tablets).
2. 7:4-6 A wife and her husband
7/2, A WIFE AND HER HUSBAND. A wife is freed by the
death of her husband. The law’s obligation ceases when death occurs since the
Christian has experienced death. The law has no claim on her.
A married couple (cross) and deceased husband (line)
frees the wife (raised hands).
3. 7:7-12 The law is holy and good
7/3, THE LAW IS HOLY AND GOOD. Sin used the holy
mosaic law as a tool to deceive human beings to sin resulting in their
spiritual death.
Sin (square/x) used the mosaic law (two tablets) to
deceive humans (line).
4. 7:13-20 The conflict in man
7/4, THE CONFLICT IN MAN. The Christian does what he
detests. Sin in man is reasonable because of the evil human beings do.
The Christian (cross) has good (square with four
lines) and evil (square/x) but chooses evil rather than good (line/square with
four lines).
5. 7:21-25 The reasoning self and the carnal self
7/5, THE REASONING SELF AND THE CARNAL SELF. The
reasoning self obeys God’s law in contrast to the carnal self. The person
enslaved to sin needs God’s grace.
The Christian (cross) obeys God’s law (two tablets)
but the sinner (square, x) disobeys God’s law (line/two tablets).
