Homily - Year C Homily (January 01, 2022) Mary, The Holy Mother of God

TOPIC: C, MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

C YEAR HOMILY, LUKE 2:16-21, JANUARY 1, 2022

1. STORY

Prince John was soon to become king, and he wanted to know what he must do to be a good king. He asked wise men for their suggestions. The wise men presented him with three books of suggestions. He said they had to cut down the suggestions. After one week, they returned with only two books of suggestions. He asked them again to reduce them. After another week, they returned with only one book. Finally he asked them for only one suggestion. After another week, they came back with one suggestion. They said the change the prince had to make was to be more caring and helpful toward his people in order to be a good king. As we begin a new year, we too must change to be better disciples of Jesus.

2. GOSPEL, LUKE 2:16-21

A. THE EXAMPLE OF THE SHEPHERDS.

The shepherds did three things.

i) They went looking for Jesus.

ii) They told others about Jesus.

iii) They praised God.

B. THE EXAMPLE OF MARY.

Mary also did three things.

i) She and Joseph were with Jesus at the crib.

ii) She kept all these things in her heart.

iii) She named the infant Jesus.

3. APPLICATION TO LIFE

A THE SHEPHERDS TOLD OTHERS ABOUT JESUS.

The shepherds shared the good news about Jesus with others. During 2022, try to tell others about Jesus. The reason is that Jesus can help them to be happier. Jesus can tell them how to find peace and joy. Jesus can give them the strength to do what is right.

B. MARY KEPT ALL THESE THINGS IN HER HEART.

Jesus was the center of Mary’s life. During this new year, remember to do the following.

i) Pray each day. In the morning, ask for help to have a peaceful day. In the evening, thank God for his blessings.

ii) Attend Sunday Mass each week where we hear God’s instructions and receive the Eucharist, the spiritual food we need to live each day as a disciple of Jesus.

iii) During this year, be kind to people and help those in need.

4. CONCLUSION

The prince was aware that for him to be a good king he had to change. We too have to change in order to become better disciples of Jesus. We can learn from the shepherds and Mary. The shepherds told others about Jesus. We must also tell others about Jesus. Jesus was the center of Mary’s life. We must make Jesus the center of our lives by our daily prayers, by going to Sunday Mass, and by helping others. We are grateful for this instruction and pray for the strength to change our lives so as to be better disciples of Jesus during 2022. We wish all a very happy New Year.
