4/JESUS
4/4 THE NEW TESTAMENT LETTERS
THE STRUCTURE OF THE LETTERS. There
are 13 letters by Paul, and eight by other authors. Though they are not
letters, included are the Acts of the Apostles and the last book of the bible,
the book of Revelation. They were written in Greek from the years 65AD to about
125AD. They were written to instruct the new and growing churches.
PEOPLE IN THE LETTERS. In the Acts,
Peter and Paul are the main persons. In the letters written by Paul, he tells
us a great deal about his life, difficulties, his work, and about his helpers, Titus
and Timothy. He speaks of the different churches he established. The eight
other letters are written to the Churches in general. The book of Revelation speaks
of seven churches in present day Turkey.
THE CONTENTS OF THE LETTERS. The
Acts show the expansion of the Church from Jerusalem to Rome. The 13 letters by
Paul inform the different Churches about the teachings of Jesus and how to live
a good Christian life, as do the eight other letters. Revelation comforts the
Church which is suffering from persecution by the Roman emperors.
