2. ISAAC
Abraham's son was Isaac who was the father of Esau and Jacob.
A WIFE FOR ISAAC. Abraham sent his servant back to his homeland to
search for a wife for his son Isaac. The servant upon his arrival to the
homeland was helped at a well by a young woman named Rebekah. He found lodging
in her home. It turned out her father was a relative of Abraham. He explained
his mission and Rebekah was willing to become Isaac's wife. Upon her return to
Abraham's home, Isaac and Rebekah were married.
THE BIRTH OF ESAU AND JACOB. Isaac prayed for his sterile wife to have
children. Finally she had twins, Esau and Jacob. God informed her
that Jacob, the younger son, would become greater than Esau, the older
son. They grew up and Esau became a skillful hunter while Jacob kept to his
tent. Isaac preferred Esau while Rebekah favoured Jacob.
GOD BLESSES JACOB. Due to a famine, Isaac moved with all his possessions
to an area near the king of the Philistines. Isaac told the king that
Rebekah, who was very beautiful, was his sister. When the king discovered that
Rebekah was Isaac's wife, he informed his men not to touch her or Isaac. God
blessed Isaac with great wealth and reminded him of the blessings he promised
his father Abraham and his family.
God blessed Isaac by sending him a faithful wife, sons, protection from
possible enemies and great wealth. God also blesses us.
